![]() Apple is king to software support on devices. This makes me think that maybe it would be better to convince her to go with an iPad again, even though the newer iPads don't have a 3.5mm jack. So when thinking about her next tablet longevity would be nice to have. But in one year, not only was it out-of-date but it couldn't even run, anymore, the app we had bought it for. I got it because it was one of the first tablets to have 64GB of storage (which was huge back then) and it was perhaps the first tablet to have a dual core processor. We were very much disgusted with our first Android Tablet back when those first came out. ![]() ![]() She likes keeping things as long as possible (hopefully that includes me). We're both getting sick of buying a $50 this and and a $100 that that doesn't work anywhere as near as good as the $5 or $15 part it replaced.Īs I said before, my wife is still happy with her tablet. Anyhow, we are both on the same boat that it would be really nice if her next tablet still had the 3.5mm jack unless someone could please direct us on what adapters and devices that actually work well for being replacements for analog audio jack technology. We also have a few Bluetooth devices that do the same thing, clip the first part of words off. Did I say I hate Bluetooth? I really do). I got this adapter because it had great reviews and has a PD charge port on it so she can charge her phone and at the same time connect it to things that don't have working bluetooth, like in the car (the Bluetooth stopped working in the car and I had it fixed by the dealer for $300, but soon after it stopped working again and now I'd have to pay another $300 to get it working again. Sometimes she feels like taking a hammer and pulverizing her phone and the adapter. So when she's listening to audiobooks (her main use of any sort of an audio conection), the first part of the first word of every parragraph, or sometimes every sentance, is clipped off. Also, the USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter I got her has this irritating problem that it clips off the first couple syllables after a long pause. It works ok with some devices, but sometimes connecting Bluetooth is a pain. It's the first device we've gotten that doesn't have built-in analog audio. Her phone we just got her a couple months ago has turned out to be a real pain because of the lack of the headphone jack. On thing that does make me think that an iPad tablet or Pixel tablet or similar wouldn't be a good choice is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. She and I don't like a lack of a 3.5mm jack On the other hand, I did notice that the Surface Go 4 was released, but not to consumers. What she needs is a bright screen and loud speakers for those times she's out doors, which my Surface Go 2 doesn't do well. She uses her tablet and laptop at the same time, like when she's on a Zoom meeting and uses her tablet for note taking, so it's not like a Surface would be able to kill two birds with one stone and replace both her laptop and tablet she'd still need a separate laptop. ![]() She doesn't really need a Windows machine as her tablet. I do wonder though if that would work out that well for her. She did hint to maybe wanting a Surface Go like I have. At one time she had a Windows Phone and both an Android tablet and iPad tablet that she carried around with her, plus her Windows laptop, which she did for several years. Her last two phones were Pixels and she's used Android tablets in the past. But she's not one to follow any particular operating system and says she doesn't care what kind of tablet her next tablet will be, as long as it works. We've talked about getting her another iPad. I'm probably more likely to screem "Honey! You gotta have this tablet!" So we might wait until the 11th or 12th gen iPad comes out, or until there's a tablet that comes out that makes my wife screem "I want this one!" although I doubt there'll ever be such a tablet. She also mentioned it's feeling a bit sluggish, although she says she's still pretty happy with it. I noticed that it has iPadOS 16 on it, and not the latest 17, and it looks like it's at the end-of-life as far as updates are concerned. Right now my wifey is using a 5th gen iPad from 2017.
